that's what i do - i just follow top researchers and firms in publications, books and blogs. even with this sub-selection, I find that there is enough for me to dig through, and marginally low benefit to exploring on low signal sites such as SSRN. Of course, you will miss the occasional, but I think it is an appropriate tradeoff.
